Delivering More Than a Meal: Kunes GMC of Beloit Talks with Beloit Meals on Wheels

Published on May 8, 2025 by Matthew Kroll

At Kunes GMC of Beloit, we believe that driving change means more than just selling vehicles — it’s about building community. That’s why we were thrilled to feature Linda Ross, Executive Director of Beloit Meals on Wheels, in our latest episode of Kunes Car Convos. Together, we took a ride in a 2025 Hummer EV to deliver meals and talk about a cause that’s close to home — caring for our senior neighbors.

A Mission with Heart: Meals on Wheels in Beloit

Beloit Meals on Wheels has been nourishing lives since 1971, when community members first stepped up to deliver just six meals. Today, the organization is a vital lifeline, serving over 68,000 meals annually to homebound seniors aged 60 and older within the 53511 zip code — from country roads to city blocks.

Led by Linda Ross since October, the team is small but mighty: one full-time staff member, six part-time employees, and a network of 500–600 dedicated volunteers. Every day, around 180 clients receive meals, but what’s even more powerful is the connection and care those visits bring.
“We always say we deliver more than a meal,” Linda shared. “It’s the human connection and the safety check that matter just as much.”

Life-Saving Visits and Lasting Friendships

Linda spoke of moments when volunteers found clients who had fallen, experienced medical emergencies, or hadn’t seen another person for days. One story stood out: a volunteer discovered a man who had suffered a stroke and lay on his garage floor all night. Because of that timely visit, he received the urgent help he needed — and Meals on Wheels continues to support him today.

The impact is immeasurable. The oldest client served was just six weeks shy of her 103rd birthday. Thanks to this program, she was able to live independently in her own home until the end of her life.

How You Can Get Involved

Looking to give back? Volunteering is easy, flexible, and deeply rewarding. Whether you deliver meals during your lunch break, help in the office, or lend a hand at an event, there’s a place for everyone.

“We have 35 workplace teams,” said Linda. “Some deliver once a month. Others, a few times a week.”

If your workplace wants to get involved — like we’re proud to do at Kunes GMC — call the Beloit Meals on Wheels office. You’ll not only make a difference in someone’s day — you might just change your own.

A Ride with Purpose

Our Kunes Car Convo wasn’t just a ride in the sleek new 2025 Hummer EV — it was a journey into the heart of Beloit. As Linda said, “It takes a village,” and we couldn’t agree more.

We’re proud to support Meals on Wheels and to be part of this generous, compassionate community. For anyone wondering how they can help — donate, volunteer, spread the word. Because feeding people isn’t just important — it’s essential.
